Rufiji River Camp

What a fantastic camp. A very friendly hostess welcomes you and takes you to the tent. We stayed here for 2 nights. What a beautiful accommodation. The tent is very spacious and equipped with a huge thatched roof. Has 2 outside seating areas overlooking the river. The tent has 2 huge beds with mosquito nets, a bathroom with shower and separate toilet. It's super clean. The restaurant has a great ambiance. The outside seating areas look down on the river with hippos. Every evening there is an extensive buffet. But also the breakfast served at the table is perfect. In the evening you will be brought to your tent by a Masai. All the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. This location offers a very nice boat safari. In addition to hippos, you can spot crocodiles and many birds here. The Selous National Camp is very large so plan a full day safari to spot the most amazing animals. If you want to relax, this camp also has a lovely swimming pool.

Asante sana Rufiji River Camp-Team

The gentle reader would like to find my review for Vuma Hills Tented Camp by Fox-Safari, but written in English. I would like to thank the Rufiji team for the friendly and helpful service. Here, too, the chef and his staff deserve at least one star for the delicious food from breakfast to dinner. We went on the river safari with Isaak and Ommar. Hippos and crocodiles give a perfect spectacle. To my delight, an ornithology enthusiast also gets his money's worth observing many tropical birds on the shore. Our guides knew them all. Antelopes, wildebeests, buffaloes, giraffes and elephants came to drink. So pure safari with a picnic on the shore. On the land safari in an open SUV with our guide Wasiri, we discovered, among other things, warthosgs, impalas and antelopes, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes and a family of elephants with a baby, which passed us almost scarily. Wasiri answered all of our questions and found a spot for a delicious picnic, from where we could observe many animals in peace. We (grandparents, parents and 2 grandchildren, 11 and 9 years old) found our home for 3 nights in comfortable tents with large bedrooms and living rooms under two large wooden structures with thatched roofs. The bathroom was clean and at the end of the tent. "tutarudi hapa !"

A magical place to stay

Rufiji river lodge is an utterly magical place. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough. The lodge offers daily activities, ranging from walks, boat trips and drives - all of which are amazing ways to see the animals. The staff are kind and helpful, and incredibly knowledgable about all of the wildlife. During our three day stay we saw (amongst many others) elephants, giraffes, crocodiles, painted dogs, buffalo, impala, zebra, storks, kingfisher, Goliath heron … and went to sleep to the sound of happy hippos!

The rooms are clean, comfortable and lovely. Every evening you get walked to and from your room by a Masai guard (which is very reassuring given that once a hippo joined us for dinner!). The chef created delicious meals full of fresh fruit and veg, for breakfast, lunch and dinner - catering for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. It was the best food we ate on our trip!

The lodge has the most breath-taking view of the sunset over the river every evening. If you have the opportunity - you must visit!

Unforgettable Experience!

My husband and me spent two wonderful days in this Camp at the end of February. Everything was much better than our expectations. The Team und their kindness will always remain in our heart. The Service was excellent, both in the camp and in excursions. We saw many animals among which: zebras, giraffes, lions, hippos, crocodiles, elephants ...
They also gave us a surprising room upgrade and a free bottle of wine for our honeymoon.
We can only recommend this place!
All the best, Sara and René

Great Vista of the Rufiji

Rufiji camp is quite well run. My lovely tent was on a platform with a screen door built in. The surrounding spacious deck is set up to enjoy the view. A comfortable bed with furniture inside along with a en suite bathroom. At mealtime they took good care of me including my special food needs. The staff was hard working and friendly. I highly recommend.

A very "wild" experience
My wife and I, and four friends just spent three nights at Fox's Katavi Wildlife Camp. It was great. The camp is tucked in along the side of a great plain, in which a river runs through. Each room and the main dining / congregating area looks out on the plain, which is constantly full of different wildlife. The entire area is just booming with game. The area is massive so you can cover quite a lot of new ground on the game drives. The guides were great. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The camp manager was great, always made sure we were happy and taken care of. The food quality was excellent, and plentiful. The fact that these camps are so open aired places make it a great get away during these times. You are always able to social distance at these camps. Each banda is very private and quite far from each other, and the main areas are large and accommodating to social distancing. The people in the camps were willing to take any measure you'd like them to, in order for you to feel comfortable. We really enjoyed our bandas. They were very clean and comfortable. It made you feel like you were camping but protected from the wilderness. Absolutely fantastic.

The entire stay here at Rufiji River Camp was impeccable, stellar, standout awesome, from the meeting we were given at the local bush airstrip when the two Cessna Caravan aircraft we had flown there in landed, to our farewell take-off as we departed for Ruaha River Lodge another of Foxes safari lodges approx 1hr: 40min flight west of Rufiji.
