Our fly camp is situated about
45 minutes drive from the main Camp on the shore of Lake Mzizimia.
The name fly camp has nothing to do with insects but more with the English
phrase “fly by night”, which refers to anything that is temporary. Here
today and over-night it can fly away.
It offers the possibility to spend some time in very close proximity to the
bush in a very personal environment. Whereas the main camp is not large,
with a maximum capacity of 40 clients, the fly camp can give that degree of
exclusivity accommodating two to six clients with advised stay duration of
at least two nights.
The large tents are double
occupancy and are equipped with folding cot beds, mattresses, sheets,
blankets and pillows. In front of the tents there are folding safari-style
chairs and a table placed on a locally made African mat.
There is a clean toilet tent with two long-drop-style toilets and a separate
shower with an oil drum bush shower. Soap and towels are supplied.
Meals in the fly camp are served in the lakeside gazebo and the client can
expect the same quality of cuisine as in the main camp, prepared by your own
cook and served by your own waiter.
A vehicle with driver and an armed ranger and/or guide is at the camp or
with the clients all the time to take care of safety and security.
The camp has radio contact with the main camp.
The guides based with the client are able to offer the clients excursions by
car or on foot using the fly-camp as the base. This gives the client the
opportunity to decide which time of day to explore the surrounding nature
and for how long.
After a tough day of watching the Selous’ myriad wildlife and breathtaking
scenery it is time to return to camp, have a cold drink, listen to the sound
of the bush as the lanterns around the camp are lit and smell the appetising
aromas as your cook prepares dinner.
After dinner maybe sit and watch the campfire as nearly true stories of
adventures in Africa are told and the sound of the nighttimes animals begins
to be heard.
Fly Camping has to be booked in advance and children younger than 16 are not
allowed.
